Natural and wood. One tone the raw fleece, unchanged. The other the color of bark, of worked timber — achieved with natural pigments from plants native to northern Argentina. A warm contrast that is quiet rather than sharp.
The comb pattern — peinecillo in the region where it’s made — is one of the oldest structures in Andean textile tradition. Rows of the two tones alternate in a tight, precise rhythm across the width of this peinecillo wool runner rug. The result is a surface with depth that photographs rarely capture fully.
This peinecillo wool runner rug is made entirely by hand, without electricity or industrial machinery, by artisan cooperatives in northern Argentina. The wooden loom, the hand-spun wool, the natural dyes — all of it the same process that has been used in this region for generations.
Natural and wood is a pairing that works in almost any interior — beside a bed on pale timber floors, along a hallway with stone or concrete, in a kitchen alongside wood tones and linen.
