Pepper is not a dyed color. It is the result of spinning together dark and light fibers from different sheep — each thread a mix, each section of the weave slightly different from the last. The tone that emerges is neither gray nor brown. It has speckle. It has depth that a solid dye cannot replicate.
The Solid Pepper is a speckled wool area rug that carries this variation across its entire surface. From a distance it reads as a warm, mid-tone neutral. Up close, the individual fibers are visible — the dark ones, the light ones, the way they twist together in the hand-spun yarn.
No dye of any kind was used in this piece. The color is entirely the result of the fiber selection and the spinning process — two things that have been done by the same artisan communities in northern Argentina for generations.
Flat weave, no pile, built row by row on a wooden loom without electricity.
This speckled wool area rug is one of the most distinctive pieces in the ANDINA collection precisely because it cannot be replicated by industrial methods. The variation is the point.
