From Highland to Loom

The check is one of the oldest patterns in textile history. In the highlands of northern Argentina, it has been woven continuously for generations — not as a trend, but as a way of working with two colors and a loom.

The Damero Rug in Wood & Sand is made using a baeton weave, a technique that creates a surface with more body than a standard flat weave. The squares are not printed or applied — they are the result of alternating the color sequence of the threads, row by row, with precision. The geometry is inseparable from the structure.

Wood and sand. Two tones that sit close together in the spectrum but read clearly as distinct. Both are achieved through natural dyes only — derived from bark, flowers, and plants native to the region. This damero wool area rug contains no synthetic pigments at any stage.

Made entirely by hand in northern Argentina, in small cooperatives that share both the technique and the responsibility for the land where the wool comes from.

Available from 3×5 ft to 9×12 ft. Custom dimensions and colorways through our Bespoke Rugs page. Trade inquiries and sample requests via our Trade Program.

Made by Hand

Behind every ANDINA piece lies the work of artisan weavers living in remote regions of northern Argentina. Their craft, passed down through generations, is a quiet dialogue between tradition, nature, and time. Using natural fibers and ancestral techniques, they create textiles that embody both cultural heritage and contemporary simplicity.
