Moss and sand. A green and a neutral that don’t compete — they balance. The moss brings a quiet color presence; the sand grounds it. Together they form a checkered wool area rug that reads as considered without being decorative.
The pattern is structural. The squares emerge from the baeton weave itself — each one formed by alternating the two tones in sequence, row by row, until the geometry appears on the surface. The baeton technique gives each square a slight raised quality, a shadow that shifts as light changes across the day.
Both tones are achieved with natural dyes only. The moss from plants native to northern Argentina. The sand from minerals and bark from the same region. Both applied to hand-spun sheep wool before weaving begins. No synthetic pigments at any stage.
This checkered wool area rug works in living rooms and dining spaces where a room needs pattern without a strong graphic weight — the two tones are close enough in value that the check reads softly rather than boldly.
