The squares are not drawn. They are woven. Each one built by alternating the position of threads across the loom, one row at a time, until the geometry emerges from the structure itself.
The Sand & Moss Squares is a geometric wool area rug built using a baeton weave — a technique that creates a surface with more body and texture than a standard flat weave. The pattern has a quiet three-dimensional quality: the squares cast a faint shadow on each other, and the surface changes depending on the direction of light.
Sand and moss. A warm neutral against a muted green drawn from plants native to northern Argentina. Both tones are achieved with natural dyes — no synthetic pigments at any point in the process.
This geometric wool area rug is made by artisan cooperatives in remote regions of the Argentine highlands, using wooden looms and hand-spun wool. The same families, the same techniques, generation after generation.
