Black and natural. The highest contrast available in the ANDINA palette — one tone dyed, one completely untouched.
The natural here is the raw fleece of the sheep, exactly as it comes from the animal. No dye, no pigment, no processing beyond spinning and weaving. The black is achieved through natural dyes only — the same process, applied to different wool. This wool area rug undyed on one side is a study in contrast without artifice.
The comb pattern — peinecillo in the region where it’s made — is one of the oldest structures in Andean textile tradition. Rows of contrasting color alternate in a rhythm that is both precise and alive. Up close, the surface has a depth that flat photographs don’t capture.
This wool area rug undyed in its natural tone is made entirely by hand in northern Argentina by artisan cooperatives that have preserved this pattern across generations. No electricity. No industrial machinery. Just the loom, the wool, and the hands.
