Natural and sand. One tone the wool as it comes from the animal — no dye, no intervention. The other achieved with natural pigments from plants native to northern Argentina. Both wound into small spheres and set into the surface, one by one, by hand.
The pom pom technique begins on a flat loom like any other ANDINA piece. After the base is woven, each raised element is added individually — tied into the structure of the weave, trimmed, and set into position. There is no machine that places them. The regularity you see is the result of skill, not automation.
The Natural & Sand colorway alternates the two tones across the surface in a rhythm that gives the pom pom wool area rug both texture and pattern without the need for a graphic design. The two colors work together because they come from the same place — one undyed, one dyed with what grows in the same region.
This pom pom wool area rug works in living rooms and bedrooms where a piece with more presence is needed — where a flat weave would be too quiet and a patterned rug too busy.
